Potentials of New Renewable Energy Sources in Croatian Electric Power System

In various developing strategies of Croatian power system usage of renewable energy sources (wind, solar and geothermal energy, biomass, wave energy and tidal energy) have to be consider. This paper analyses only renewable sources of energy for possible applicability in Croatian power system. These are solar and wind energy, as well as biomass. Considering technical and economic characteristics of the existing renewable sources in the world, applicability of a few specific locations in Croatia was analysed, primarily regarded to their economic parameters. Apart from that, environmental impact of the observed energy sources is given. Taking into account the calculated economic and environmental parameters, renewable sources as a possible developing option in Croatian power system is realistically estimated.
