EVALUATION OF TREATMENT RESULTS IN TRAUMATIZED PATIENTS TREATED ACCORDING TO TRISS METHODOLOGY
The quality of treatment of severely injured patients can most clearly be shown by the analysis of mortality according to the severity of injuries in the observed group. To describe the severity of injury, it is necessary to use a scoring system. In the intrahospital segment of treatment, it is favorable to use TRISS method with a scoring system for anatomic, physiologic, and age characteristics of injured patients. The aim of this study was to analyze the rate of lethal outcome in a group of trauma patients, and to compare it with the probability of survival by use of TRISS method. Records on the outcome of injured patients treated at the Karlovac General Hospital between January 1 and June 30, 1997, were retrospectively analyzed. In TRISS, the following formula was used: Ps=l/(l+e"b). Nine (27.27%) out of 33 patients died. The probability of survival in the patient group according to TRISS was 81.09%, however, the actual survival rate was 72.73%. The mean survival probability was 50.60% in the de¬ceased and 92.52% in the survivors. A slight difference between the actual and expected mortality (6.06%) points to an acceptable level of trauma care at our hospital. Useful data could hopefully be obtained by including a greater number of patients. TRISS method was found to be a helpful indicator of the quality of treatment of injured patients in the intrahospital care segment.
