Learning and Teaching as Dialogue Between Children and Adults
This paper discusses the dialogical approach to learning and teaching in institutional educational settings, exemplified by preschools. I focus on the process of learning and teaching within the sociocultural theory of learning, teaching and development. The theoretical elaboration of learning and teaching as dialogue and vast experience in its reification in standard, conventional institutional settings indicate the importance of “authentic”, “authorial” learning from the perspective of children and adults. The presupposed importance of intersubjectivity and criticality during learning and teaching has been repeatedly reaffirmed in prior research about learning and teaching in various institutional settings.
