Service Management Concepts and Challenges in Cloud Environments
Modern society is increasingly dependent on ICT systems that tend to evolve into global systems of systems, providing its services based on virtualization technologies to end users. The paradigm shift to Internet of Services (IoS) provisioned on the interconnected Cloud infrastructures opens up numerous possibilities combining and integrating the functionality of a multitude of services offered by third parties. These services are deployed and provisioned automatically and may form large scale service chains upon end user requests. Current technologies are lacking effective networking management mechanisms to cope with these large scale service chains. Dynamically and autonomously provisioned service chains interconnect computational (compute and storage) resources across system of systems, often transferring unpredictable streams of big data. At the same time, modern software and service engineering approaches offer unlimited innovation opportunities in new and open development environments. In this context the challenge is to guarantee quality and reliability of services satisfying the end users expectations.
