Abrasion and Erosion Wear of Electrodeposited Ni-SiC Nano-Composite Coatings

A nickel matrix with SiC nanoparticles composite coating was prepared by electrodeposition, assisted with an ultrasonic treatment of the galvanic bath. Coating abrasion and erosion wear resistance were determined, as well as microhardness. Structure and composition of the nickel nanocomposite coating was defined using SEM and EDX. The corrosion behavior was investigated by potentiodynamic polarization methods in 3.5 wt. % NaCl solution. Results showed improved mechanical properties, wear and corrosion resistance compared to nickel metallic coating.
