Montrer patte blanche and Experiencing the Margin(alization)
My intention is to start by questioning the -port – the suffix belonging to three words of the conference’s title – and the role that these words (if not concepts) play in experiencing the margin(alisation). I consider that these words also represent three movements which can describe different stages of – or states in – (not)becoming queer. Referring to Deleuze’s concept of “becoming”, Brian Massumi in his User’s guide to capitalism and schizophrenia wrote that “becoming is always marginal, a simultaneous coming and going in a borderland zone between modes of action”. Actually, what interests me the most is the port of entry for the “modes of action” experienced in queer. Should it always be like in La Fontaine’s tale The Wolf, the Goat and the Kid, where one needs to be asked to “show one’s white paw” ; that is to say, to produce some identification, to show one’s credentials, in order to be recognized as (non)belonging even to the margins of the society? Importing, exporting and transporting are considered as expressing the very dynamics of queering, therefore even margins become much more than fringes. Whatever they become when they stop “becoming”, importing, exporting and transporting come within a hair's breadth of disappearing.
