Usefulness of Real-Time Three-Dimensional Echocardiography in The Assessment of Intracardiac Masses
Conventional echocardiography is a fundamentally important procedure for the detecting of intracardiac masses. Intracardiac masses can easily be detected by transesophageal echocardiography (TOE). Detection of intracardiac masses often repersents a difficulty for TTE due to its smaller dimension or location in the LAA or right atrium. Real-time 3D echocardiography provides better understanding and assessment of innracardic masses than 2D echocardiography. 3D echocardiography was performed with a GE Medical System Ultrasound Vivid E9. The study group included 8 patients (4 male and 4 female) age 46- 69 years. Thrombus was detected in Rv, LV and LAA in patients with RV arrhythmogenic dysplasia, dilated cardiomyopathy and mitral stenosis. We detected LA myxoma, RA angiosarcoma and TV fibroelastoma. Vegetation was detected in two patients with infective endocarditis. The patients with RV and LV thrombus, tumors and vegetation were refered for surgery. 3D echcardiography offers incremental value for the assessment of intracariac masses by providing more accurate imaging of the size, shape, their attachment and their mobility in some cases.
