The stereophogrammetric measurement of the complete denture's supporting area
Besides other relevant factors, the complete denture's retention and the stability are dependent on the entirely parallel relation of the dentures base with the -supporting area. In this respect, the size and the shape of the supporting area are of considerable importance. The aim of this investigation was to measure the length, the width, the depth as well as the size of the surface of the denture's supporting area. The measurements were carried out on plaster casts, and were done by stereophotography, an analytical method quite easily related to both automatic computer processing and allowing the results to be both graphically and numencally presented. Results obtained from this investigation have provided precise information of the parameters measured, that are to some extent in accordance with the data from the literature. The average surface's value for the size of the upper and the lower complete denture's supporting area was nearly 300 mm2 and 143 mm respectively.
