Testing Impact Resistance of Industrial Floors Overlays
Most of standardised methods are intended to test the impact resistance solely of the overlay material, and not for the whole system consisting of subbase, concrete slab and overlay. However, the kinetic energy of hard impact striker is partly absorbed by deformation (vibration) of the floor slab and partly by local damage. In our laboratory experiments different combinations of concrete slabs, boundary conditions and overlays were tested as the whole system and the new method was proposed to the RILEM TC 184 IFE. Subsequently, the influences of overlay modulus of elasticity, resilience, thickness, overlay bond to the concrete slab and rigidity of test specimens on the test results were analysed by the computer program COSMOS. Models defined by three different modulus of elasticity and different thickness were also studied in computer analysis to quantify their influence on stresses and deformations distributions. The models were fixed either to the rigid or soft subbase. The good agreement between the results of the computer analysis and the results of the experimental laboratory tests was obtained.
