Proteomic analysis of urine of dogs infected with Babesia canis
Canine babesiosis is an important tick-borne disease with worldwide distribution, caused by the intra-erythrocyte protozoal parasites. Acute kidney injury (AKI) is the most common dysfunction observed in babesiosis. Urine contains multiple and yet unstudied biomarkers of kidney injury, particularly in the low- molecular weight region of urine proteome. Urinary biomarkers identified hitherto are insensitive or non-specific for early diagnosis of AKI. Data obtained with label-free LC-MS/MS proteomic approach suggests presence of specific urine proteomic signature in the dogs with Babesia canis infection.
