All-inclusive Digital Archiving: Problems and Possible Technical Solutions
Numerous different activities in children’s libraries produce materials worth archiving. Most of these materials are digital or can be digitized, but it is still not a long term archiving solution. It is all-inclusive digital archiving that meets all the demands of long term quality archiving, but it requires the creation of metadata and software solutions suitable for librarians. Metadata must be created systematically according to strict rules of indexing. These rules are set by librarians who know well the aspects of document categories and their importance. Archiving and indexing digital objects on on- line servers through secure and reliable software is a process that implies assistance form ICT specialists who recommend the best technical solutions, instruct librarians and keep the database operational.
