Mechanical and morphological properties of modified PP/SEP and PP/SBS blends
Binary blends of polypropylene (PP)/ poly(styrene-b-ethylene-co-propylene) block copolymer (SEP) and polypropylene (PP)/poly(styrene-b-butadiene-b-styrene) block copolymer (SBS) and correspond filled blends PP/SEP/talc and PP/SBS/talc are studied. By tensile measurements, impact strength measurements, and by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) the binary and modified blends are characterized. Results are illustrated and analyzed as a function of compositional variables in relation to PP/styrene block copolymer content up to 20 vol.% at constant surface treated talc loading (12 vol.%). The role of SEP and SBS as well as the impact of low dose gamma irradiation on mechanical and morphological properties of multiphase polypropylenes is discussed.
