Distribution of milk flow in Holstein Friesian and Fleckvieh cows in Croatia

Defining the optimal milk flow rate which would have no influence on the cow's udder health, there will be greater savings in milk production and its quality. We wanted to define possible improvements in development of cattle breeding methodology regarding milk flow rate. Researches were made on four locations, on two cow breeds and 538 cows. 2594 tests were made with computer milking equipment, Alfa-Laval and with digital milk flow counter made by Tru-Test Company. Tests showed better results among Holstein Friesian cows then Fleckviehs. The optimal distribution of milk flow rate of Holstein Friesian type was 56.58 %, and Fleckvieh was only 38.91%. Refilling the milking procedure methodology and amelioration of milking devices, milking could be done in less time. During that operation, it is necessary to monitor the optimal milk flow rate which would not have an influence on inflammation of udder and multiplication of somatic cells in milk.
