Influence of coating systems on colour stability of artificially exposed heat-treated wood
This paper deals with the colour stability of heat-treated wood finished with different coating systems and artificially exposed to indoor and outdoor conditions. Colour and colour stability is a very important property in the use of wood because of its appreciated aesthetic value. Heat-treatment results in wood darkening, which is an attribute to the formation of coloured degradation compounds (Sundqvist and Morén 2002) and to the formation of quinines (Bekhta and Niemz 2003). Unfortunatelly, it has been established that the darker colour of heat-treated wood is not stable under sunlight exposure (Ayadi et al. 2003, Deka et al. 2008).
