Nanoparticle-based coatings for wood surfaces
Wood is material that is used both indoors and outdoors. To ensure long term performance, in both applications wood needs to be protected by an appropriate coating system. The advancement of nanotechnology has opened up possibilities to improve performance attributes of different wood coatings through incorporation of nanoparticles into coating formulations. The properties of wood coatings that can be improved are UV-protection, scratch resistance, anti-microbial, hydrophobic, self-cleaning and fire performance. This paper presents a review of research related to the possibilities of improving the properties of wood coatings through incorporation of nanoparticles.
