Travelling Musicians in Croatia and Their Role in the Creation of Popular Musical Culture
On the basis of historical sources (mostly from the mid-nineteenth century onwards), the article presents different types of travelling musicians in Croatia (singers of tales, barrel-organ players, blind gusle-players, travelling craftsmen and petty traders, urban street musicians, etc.), and considers their intermediary role in the creation of popular music in both the villages and towns.
