Prediction of Load Capacity of Quenched and Tempered Steel Specimen
The main influence factors on fracture resistance and on deformation resistance, as well as the methods of fracture and deformation resistance usage in design of safety of engineering component application are presented in this paper. The mathematical model and computer simulation for the prediction of load capacity in quenched and tempered steel specimen was developed. Load capacity depends on strength and on ductility, i.e., fracture resistance and on deformation resistance. The hardness in as-quenched specimen points has been predicted by conversion of calculated time of cooling from 800 °C to 500 °C to the hardness. Hardness of quenched and tempered steel was expressed as function of maximal hardness of actual steel and representatives of chemical diffusivity. After that, distribution of other relevant mechanical properties was found out based on predicted as-quenched and tempered hardness of steel. The established procedure for estimation of load capacity was applied in computer simulation of quenched and tempered steel workpiece.
