Determination of the critical period for weed control in soybean crop (Glycine max (L.) Merr.)
Critical period for weed control (CPWC) is one of the key components of proper integrated weed management. Field study was conducted in Osijek-Baranja county, township Darda during 2013 to determine critical period for weed control in soybean. In experiment arranged as additive-removal, weed-crop interactions in twelve weed removal treatments throughout the growing season were evaluated. Duration of weed-crop competition affected development of weed biomass and only later emerging weeds (after 8 weeks of crop emergence) has little effect on soybean yield. Critical period for weed-crop competition was between 2 and 8 weeks after crop emergence. Weed competition for entire growing season reduced soybean yield by 83%.
