DNA Identification of Human Skeletal Remains from Different Historical Epochs
Identification of human remains employs different methods from identification of remains by a living person, fingerprint analysis, dentition analysis, identification of special features, recognition of belongings, autopsy findings, the analysis of skeletal remains by forensic anthropologists, reconstruction of facial features from skulls and DNA analysis. Different methods of forensic DNA testing have been widely established and accepted as the standard procedure in various forensic and scientific investigations. Significant efforts were and are currently underway to identify missing individuals discovered in hundreds of mass graves situated throughout this region, but also human remains all over the world. Very important objective of this complicated process was development applied lab-procedures for successful processing of various skeletal samples. Ability to analyze trace amounts of human DNA from old teeth and bone samples nowadays offered the opportunity for investigation even archaeological skeletal remains (from different historical epochs) and its comparative genetic analysis with presumptive relatives.
