Novel complexes of copper(II) with tridentate hydrazone ligands
The design of polynuclear transition-metal clusters with novel magnetic properties is one of the few major goals in the field of material chemistry and condensed matter physics. Polynuclear copper(II) clusters, which exibit a large diversity of structural types are of particular interest from both structural and functional points of view. Tetranuclear, as well as dinuclear copper(II) clusters are of permanent interest in magnetostructural research, bioinorganic modeling, catalysis and electron transfer reactions. Hydrazones, which represent the most common type of tridentate ONO donors are often used as ligands in chemistry of polynuclear clusters. One of the most investigated hydrazones is salicylaldehyde benzoylhydrazone (H2SalHB). It is proven that H2SalHB posses mild bacteriostatic activity and inhibits DNA synthesis and cell growth. This effect is over 100 times stronger if H2SalHB is coordinated to metal center.
