Sažetak
Effective programme for quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) depends strongly on the understanding the limitations of various systems used in radiation therapy. Besides the mechanical and dosimetrical parameters of therapy machines [1], the treatment planning system (TPS) accuracy has a great impact on the treatment outcome. The verification of TPS was done using homogenous (water) phantom and anthropomorphic phantom CIRS Thorax (CIRS Inc., Norfolk). The first step was to check calibration and beam modelling in water through 58 different tests. These tests were planned in CMS XiO for two photon energies and multigrid superposition algorithm. The criteria were set according to IAEA TRS 430 [2]. After the verification in water, measurements were performed in anthropomorphic phantom. New set of 14 tests were also planned in XiO for two photon energies and multigrid superposition algorithm. The same dosimetrical verification of TPS was done in 4 radiotherapy centers in Croatia. The results of the measurements in water equivalent tissue were mostly in tolerance. Measurements done in non-water equivalent tissue revealed a significant amount of out of tolerance values, especially for high energy photon beams. Discrepancies between measurement and calculation may arise due to a number of factors [3]. After checking most of them, it becomes apparent that the limitation of calculating system cannot be neglected and the doses calculated in inhomogeneous volumes should be additionally reconsidered.
