Characterization of a LCTV used as spatial light modulator in a joint transform correlator for cuneiform sign recognition
The performance of a commercially available liquid crystal television (LCTV) as spatial light modulator in the input plane of a joint transform correlator system is investigated. Selected optoelectronical properties of the spatial light modulator are presented. Real-time correlation experiments with input signals taken from a Middle Babylonian cuneiform inscription are carried out and in-class and out-of-class sensitivities are discussed. The influence of digital preprocessing of target and reference signs, small rotations of the target sign as well as small changes in size of the target on the correlation spot height are studied.
