The place of Business English in undergraduate business studies - the ZSEM case

In higher-education institutions of Croatia, English for Specific Purposes (ESP) is traditionally taught in the first year of undergraduate studies. However, the main objective of such courses being to teach terminology, problems arise when students are not yet familiar with basic concepts of their field of study. Further challenge is to teach the same contents to students with different levels of English ranging from Elementary to Advanced. This paper discusses the types of problems encountered by the English teachers at Zagreb School of Economics and Management and suggests solutions for better provision of Business English to students.
