Presentation of rural tourism development of the Republic of Croatia and Slovenia

Rural tourism and its particularities facilitate the development of a richer, more innovative, and by all more competitive tourist offer for the future development of tourism in the Republic of Croatia. Rural tourism on family farms is still insufficiently developed and modern tourist trends known in EU countries impose specialised offer on the family farms. The paper reviews the situation of rural tourism in Croatia and Slovenia and recommends a model of specialised offer on family farms, taking into consideration the principles of sustainable development, preservation of the environment, rural areas, achievements in management and points out the particularities of tourist destinations in general. In order to enable competitiveness on the world market, tourist offer, a key element for future development of rural tourism, has been analysed. To follow Slovenia’s example, Croatia is supposed to create this specific form of tourism and provide new relevance and include this offer successfully into modern tourist trends.
