Study of light nuclei by 13C beam induced reactions
Research on the light nuclei (A<20) is one of the most active areas of modern nuclear physics. Both precise experimental data and sophisticated ab initio calculations in various frameworks are needed to clarify certain pieces of information which are still missing. Our research focuses on two neutron-rich isotopes of oxygen, 17O and 18O. The aim of this work is to determine whether cluster structures originating from 16O persist in 17O and 18O and if they do, their detailed understanding. In order to obtain the data on the structure of 17O a resonant elastic scattering experiment and the R-matrix analysis have been performed. The experiment provide the data on both 17O and 18O by using resonant particle spectroscopy, i.e. detection of decay products of a highly excited compound nuclei formed in a nuclear reaction in coincidence provides data on excitation energy and total and partial widths of highly excited states. These information reveal details of underlying nuclear structure.
