U studiji se analizira Senjski peljar nastao početkom 17. stoljeća. Objavljuju se i raščlanjuju inačice izvornih tekstova na hrvatskom i njemačkom jeziku. Riječ je o posve izvornom plovidbenom priručniku kojim je obuhvaćeno Velebitsko podgorje od Senja do Dračevca, tj. Novskog ždrila. Taj je peljar najvjerojatnije nastao za potrebe domaćih pomoraca, a kasnije je kodificiran za potrebe senjskoga krajiškog kapetana (kapetan primorskog dijela Vojne krajine). Slični tekstovi nastali prije Senjskog peljara, uključujući kartografsku građu, ni približno nemaju toliko luka i lučica koje se u tim tekstovima dulje ili kraće opisalo s isticanjem kvaliteta bitnih pomorcu. Kasniji peljari i kartografska građa 17. i 18. stoljeća tek su ponešto bolji od njih, ali i dalje ni približno ne donose ono obilje raznolikih pomorsko-geografskih podataka kao Senjski peljar. Preokret se događa nakon sustavne hidrografske i geodetske izmjere Jadranskoga mora i hrvatskoga obalnog prostora tijekom prva dva desetljeća 19. stoljeća. Peljari i kartografsko gradivo nastali na temelju tih i kasnijih izmjera tijekom 19. i 20. stoljeća imaju daleko više podataka nego Senjski peljar, ali u njima nerijetko nije zabilježeno sve ono što se tada znalo, već se obavljala redukcija na najvažnije luke, lučice i druge za plovidbu važne geografske objekte vremena u kojem su nastali. Iz raščlambe Senjskog peljara očevidno je da je to posve izvoran plovidbeno-gospodarski dokument koji je množinom zabilježenih raznolikih podataka takav da se nije mogao ugledati ni u jedan sličan povijesni dokument nastao prije njega. Čak štoviše, množinu informacija koje on pruža za relativno kratki dio hrvatske obale (Senj - Dračevac - Obrovac), imat će tek peljari nastali potkraj trećeg desetljeća 19. stoljeća i kasnije. U tom smislu ovaj prevažan povijesni izvor trebalo je potanko istražiti, svakako i stoga što je on najstariji izvor takve vrste nastao na hrvatskome jeziku, a zatim ni cijela dva desetljeća kasnije zabilježen je i na njemačkom jeziku. Autori se nadaju da će ovdje polučeni rezultati, možda, inicirati i druge istraživače da se pozabave Senjskim peljarom te pridonijeti uklanjanju dvojbenih rješenja mjestimično prisutnih u ovoj studiji. Uz prijepise Senjskog peljara dana je i preslika izvornih rukopisa. Za usporedbu objavljuje se dio peljarske i kartografske građe u kojoj je prikazan akvatorij Velebitskog kanala od kraja 15. do početka druge polovice 20. stoljeća. Ona je bila jedan od temelja znanstvene raščlambe u ovom djelu. This study analyses the early 17th century pilot guide known as the Senj Pilot (Senjski peljar). It also includes and examines different versions of the original texts in Croatian and German. The Senj is a completely authentic pilot book that describes the waters of the Velebitsko Podgorje region from Senj to Dračevac (Novsko Ždrilo Strait). It was probably written to serve the needs of local seamen, and was later codified for the needs of the Grand Captain of Senj (the captain of the coastal part of the Croatian Military Border). Similar works compiled before it, including cartographical depictions, did not contain nearly as many harbours and coves as the Senj Pilot. Pilots and cartographic depictions from the 17th and 18th centuries were perhaps more precise, but did not include nearly as great a variety of nautical and geographical information as the Senj Pilot. The systematic hydrographical and land survey of the Adriatic Sea and Croatian coastal area performed during the first two decades of the 19th century represented a sort of a turning point. Pilots and cartographical works written after that survey, or based on later 19th and 20th century surveys, contain much more information than the Senj Pilot. However, they often did not include all the information available at the time, but limited their contents to the most important ports, harbours, coves, and other geographical objects important to navigation. This analysis of the Senj Pilot shows that it is an completely authentic nautical and commercial document. It provides a wealth of information that could not be found in any similar historical documents written before it. In addition, the range of information regarding a fairly short section of the Croatian coast (Senj - Dračevac - Obrovac) found in this pilot, would not be matched until the appearance of modern pilots during the 1820s, or even later. It is also the oldest work of its sort written in Croatian. Finally, a German version of this pilot appeared a mere two decades after the original was written. That is why it was worth exploring this highly important historical source in detail. The authors hope that the results obtained in this study may encourage other scientists to tackle the Senj Pilot and contribute to the resolution of certain issues still current in this study. The analysis includes copies of original manuscripts, along with their transcripts. For the purpose of comparison, it also contains parts of certain pilot books and cartographical depictions of Velebit Channel produced between the late 15th century and the second half of the 20th century. They were used as the basis for the scientific analysis in this work.
