Supporting with anchors in soft rock and soil
Conventional anchors and bolts are not efficient in soft rock and soil. A spheric cavity appears after activiting some explosive placed at the bottom of a borehole in clay or similar soil or soft rock. An anchor or bolt could be inserted in the borehole and both the cavity and borehole filled up with concrete, mortar or grouting mixture. Such anchors are sufficiently resistant to a pulling force so that they can be applied as elements of a supporting system during underground excavation. This paper is preliminary report of the results of of the first in situ tests as well as the ideas about the analytical approach. The procedure is authorized.
