The investigation on characterization of available salts extracted from three kinds of biomass ashes

The biomass ash contains a large amount of soluble salts, which can act as some available materials as substituted products for agriculture and industry. In this study, a multi-steps method of extracting available potassium salts from wheat straw (WS), cotton straw (CS) and sawdust (SD) ashes is investigated. The different extractive products are obtained from these biomass ashes with the same treating processes such as washing, filtration, concentration, after that which can be analyzed by X- ray diffraction and X-ray fluorescence. Also the deposition trend of three biomass ashes is determined by the SiO2-CaO-K2O system diagram and some predictive indexes compared to fifth-three kinds of different straw and woody biomass ashes. The results show that the high deposition risk is determined for WS and the medium trend for CA and SD. The potassium mainly exists as sulfates such as K2SO4, KNaSO4 and KNa3(SO4)2 in extractive products. The extracting ratio of potassium salts increases sharply with the leaching numbers at first and then tends to flatten. The initial extraction ratio of 64.04% for cotton straw ashes is larger than that of other ashes. The final extracting potassium ratio from wheat straw ash, cotton straw ash and saw dust ash are 69.43%, 72.09% and 53.08%, respectively. The common phase of CaAl2Si2O8 as inherent mineral exists in three bio- fuels at this ashing temperature of 500℃. The SiO2 in the residual wheat straw ashes is close to 70%, which may be use as a silica source in industry manufacturing process.
