Determinants of Entrepreneurial Self-efficacy and Its Impact on Growth and Internationalization Intentions of Business Students

In order to discern its implications for entrepreneurship education, this research examines the impact of entrepreneurial self- efficacy on venture growth intentions. Based on the relevant scientific literature, the possible factors that influence entrepreneurial self-efficacy include: gender, previous self- employment experience, family background, and respondents’ nationality. Through their influence on entrepreneurial self-efficacy, these factors might have an indirect impact on an individual's venture growth intentions. Since there is evidence that self-efficacy determines individuals’ behavioural choices and performances, this research investigates the possible impact of entrepreneurial self- efficacy on venture growth intentions. The results confirm that entrepreneurial self- efficacy is influenced by gender, family background and respondents’ nationality, and also that it is not their gender, but self- efficacy, that influences students’ growth and internationalization intentions. This means that there is some room for improvement in terms of strengthening the self-efficacy of female students. Based on these results, certain implications for educators and higher education policy makers are discussed.
