Elemental Profiling of Noah’s Ark Shell Crust by Plasma Spectrometry Methods
Elemental profiling and elemental fingerprinting data of real samples is the matter of the utmost importance in applied research. There are only limited number of publication considering biological characteristics and aquaculture potential of mollusk specie Noah’s ark (Arca noe, Linnaeus, 1758) which inhabit eastern Adriatic Sea (Župan et al. 2014). The samples of arks were collected on several locations in Pašman channel during spring 2013. Quantitative mass and optical plasma spectrometry methods (ICP-OES, ICP-MS) were used to determine the concentration of 26 metals present in shell crust of an edible bivalve Noah’s ark. Chemically derived data provide initial information on elemental shell composition and indication of environmental status of specific locations in Adriatic Sea.
