Sources of competitiveness for furniture manufacturing firms: A review of literature and research issues
Globalization and the ever-changing business environment require greater and more recognizable investments in the wood processing industry in order to increase competitiveness and prospects of survival in the global market. Croatian wood industry is an important driver of sustainable economic development based on the use of natural resources, application of knowledge and innovation as well as production of wood products and furniture of high added value. Statistically, the Croatian wood processing industry in the total manufacturing industry in 2013 revenue is accounted for 5% achieving a revenue of 7.998 billion, and employment of manufacturing industry with 10%, and accounts for 5% of GDP in the manufacturing industry. This paper reviews existing information on the performance of the Croatian manufacturing industry and summaries current models regarding competitiveness and its sources. A review of literature suggests the both internal firm processes and external market and government policy factors affect firm and industry competitiveness
