Inflow decomposition: A vibroacoustical technique to reveal details of hydroturbine cavitation
A measurement and analysis technique which can reveal the role various turbine elements play in the cavitation process is presented. It deals with resolving the vibroacoustical consequences of the circumferential distribution of the inflow to the runner into interpretable components which, in turn, can be attributed to cavitation related to various turbine elements. The technique is presented here through a series of experiments on a 60 MW Kaplan turbine, in which a 5-bladed runner rotates in the velocity field determined by a form of the spiral and modified further by the 24 guide vanes and 12 stay vanes.
