Anglicisms in Croatian Women's Magazines and their Equivalents in the Croatian Language
This paper deals with anglicisms in the Croatian language and their Croatian equivalents. The paper is organized into two main parts: a theoretical one and a practical one, a research which was undertaken for the purpose of this paper. The first chapter deals with definitions of anglicisms and findings of different authors to this subject. The second chapter offers an overview of the history and the influence of anglicisms in Croatia. The third chapter concentrates on phonological, morphological and mainly on semantic analysis of anglicisms. Filipović’s analysis of anglicisms is the base for the theoretical part, but also for the research which has a task to detect the extent of anglicisms in Croatian women’s magazines as well as the level of semantic changes. Moreover, it tries to find out whether there are Croatian equivalents for these anglicisms. As far as the practical part is concerned, the first two chapters are concentrated on the research and methodology of the anaylsis. The third one deals with the analysis which involved fifty anglicisms found in six different women’s magazines in Croatia. The fourth is concentrated on the results of the analysis.
