Analysis and Comparison of Measuring Methods for Sun Trajectory Modeling
When PV system is provided with dual-axis tracking it is necessary to enable some method for tracking the Sun trajectory. A common method is the usage of a conventional model for the Sun trajectory for a specific location. In some cases this method can provide very poor results due to special ambient conditions. The prototype mesurement station is developed in order to provide measured results necessary for more accurate modeling of Sun trajectory for a specific location, and provide optimal references for azimuth and slope. Two methods based on measurement results are developed, analized and compared in this research. The first method is based on PV module short- circuit current measurement while maping the sky, and the second method is generated from MPP operation point modeling results. Furthermore, the results of both of these methods are compared to conventional Liu-Jordan-Klein model results. The Sun trajectory resulting from any of the analized methods can be used in advanced modeling of PV energy production, automation algorithms, etc.
