Essential micronutrients in arable soils of eastern Croatia
The aim of the paper is to present the total concentrations of essential micronutrients Fe, Mn, Zn and Cu in arable soils of eastern Croatia, to predict available fractions of micronutrients calculated as a part of the total concentrations and to present the concentrations in plant material. Agricultural soils of eastern Croatia were sampled in Osijek-baranja and Vukovar-srijem county and 135 top soil samples were collected. According to basic soil properties results, analysed soils differed from extremely acid to slightly alkaline reaction, from extremely low to high humus content. The total content of analysed micronutrients differed very significantly in decreasing averages Fe (29144, 77 mg kg-1) > Mn (537, 63 mg kg-1) > Zn (67, 79 mg kg-1) > Cu (22, 39 mg kg-1). The maximum concentrations of total Zn and Cu as potentially toxic essential heavy metals in analysed arable soils were below maximum permissible concentrations in agricultural soils in Croatia for organic agriculture (150 and 50 mg kg-1). Total content of micronutrients in soil was not impacted by soil pH. Available (EDTA) fraction of micronutrients in soil was predicted by regression equations. Soil pH significantly impacted on available micronutrients fraction. Comparing predicted share of EDTA extractable fraction in total content, the lowest share was determined for Fe (0, 01 – 0, 97 %, in average 0, 36 %), considerably higher share for Zn (1, 54 – 5, 98 %, in average 3, 53 %) and the highest share was recorded for Cu (12, 76 - 30, 49 %, in average 30, 49 %). The descending order of average micronutrients concentrations in winter wheat grain were Mn (41, 34 mg kg-1) > Fe (36, 73 mg kg-1) > Zn (22, 76 mg kg-1) > Cu (3, 45 mg kg- 1). The analysed arable soils in eastern Croatia are unpolluted with total content of Zn and Cu below limits for conventional and organic agriculture.
