Idealization, trauma and large group identity- reflexion on ex Yugoslavia countries
At the end of the last century we witnessed a horrific war in ex Yugoslavia when many people experienced severe traumatic events. The processes of healing, conflict resolution and reconcilitation in this region are very difficult and slow. This workshop focused on the concept of idealization and how idealization fits the context of the large- group identity and trauma. We will describe the main features of large group identity, how idealization (whether past history, or leaders, or share objects) is involved within the processes of healing of traumas and reconciliation, and which role idealization takes within these processes. Large group settings will be used to discuss and exchange experiences and knowledge between group conductors and participants. The objective of this workshop is to show how group analytic framework and situation „here and now“ can help us to understand the way idealization as defense mechanism interrupts working through of trauma and in which way is influental in conflict resolution.
