Simulation of Chain Saw Cutting Process with Linear Cutting Machine
The understanding of the influence of certain quantities on chain saw performance and the wear of cutting tools as well as the understanding of the interaction of certain factors and the way their individual and mutual effects influence the overall exploitation process, enables the selection of the optimum tools and the optimum operational regime. It is possible to analyse chain saw performance on the basis of cutting forces and cutting energy. Considering the very complex interaction between tools and rocks, the existing analytical models for calculating cutting forces are not sufficiently reliable. Therefore laboratory experiments were conducted on a linear rock cutting machine which enables the direct measurement of cutting forces. To measure cutting forces a triaxial force transducer was designed and constructed in the way to enable the use of original chain saw cutting elements in actual size. In order to verify the possibility of using the linear rock cutting machine in the simulation of chain saw cutting process, field experiments were conducted to measure chain saw cutting energy under real conditions of quarrying dimension stones. The experiments showed that the results obtained in the simulation of cutting process can be used to optimize chain saw constructional and operational parameters.
