Cortexillins
Cortexillins are actin-bundling proteins of major importance for mitotic cell division in the eukaryotic microorganism Dictyostelium discoideum. As judged from their N-terminal domains, the two cortexillin isoforms belong to the alpha-actinin/spectrin family of actin-binding proteins, but are distinguished from other family members by a coiled-coil region in the middle of the molecules, that gives rise to parallel dimers. Most important for the activities of cortexillins in bundling of actin filaments and for their function in cytokinesis are their C-terminal domains.
