ECONOMIC IMPORTANCE OF THE CROATIAN ENERGY SECTOR
In this paper we analyse macroeconomic importance of the Croatian energy sector. In the first part of the paper we show main economic indicators of Croatian economy. Then we present a structure of energy consumption. Third part of the paper is based on analysis of Croatian energy sector which consists of oil sector, gas sector, electricity sector and district heating sector. At the end of the paper is analysis of macroeconomic importance of Croatian energy sector for Croatian economy. We analyse key macroeconomic variables e.g. gross value added, gross domestic product, employment, investment and trade balance. Energy consumption analysis is based on most important energy variables e.g. primary energy production, energy import and export, total primary energy supply and final energy consumption. In this paper we also use input-output analysis as macroeconomics tool to show contribution and significance of the energy sector for the Croatian economy. The macroeconomic analysis is based on the data provided by the Croatian Bureau of Statistics and Croatian National Bank data. The conclusions point on importance of the energy sector for growth and development of Croatia.
