Copper Corrosion Inhibitors in Near Neutral Media
The efficiency of nontoxic imidazole derivatives as corrosion inhibitors for copper in sodium chloride solution is investigated. The influence of the structure and composition of imidazole derivatives molecule on their inhibiting properties is studied. The investigation was performed using electrochemical polarization methods (Tafel extrapolation method and polarization resistance determination) as well as weight loss measurements for different immersion times. The results have shown that imidazole derivatives with tolyl group have very good inhibiting properties, significantly higher then other investigated compounds. The values of free energies of adsorption, calculated from Freundlich isotherm, indicate that investigated imidazole derivatives physisorbe on copper surface.
