Titanate nanotubes: synthesis, characterization and photocatalytic activity
Titanate nanotubes were synthesized under hydrothermal conditions from TiO2 powder, followed by HCl rinsing. The properties of prepared nanotubes were investigated in detail by various analytic techniques such as field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transformed infra-red spectroscopy (FTIR), differential thermal analysis combined with thermo- gravimetric analysis (DTA/TGA), adsorption- desorption N2 isotherms and UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS). The photocatalytic activity of the nanotubes was evaluated in presence of UV light by degradation of methylene blue and 92 % degradation was obtained in 90 min.
