Radical Prostatectomy in the Tretment of Prostate Cancer
To describe diagnostic principles, indications, operative techniques and results of 133 cases of radical prostatectomy for cancer. At the Departments of Urology at Osijek University Hospital and Sisters of Mercy University Hospital, Croatica, Urologic Clinical High Medical Schol, Essen, and in Huyssens Foundation Evangelical Hospital, Department of Urology, diatric Urology and Oncologic Urology, Essen, Germany, 133 patients undergoing radical prostatectomy for cancer werw followed up during 6 months after operation. The indicationfor operation included a localized disease. Retropubic prostatectomy with extraperitoneal lymphadenectomy was the generally accepted techique. Our experience corresponds to the results of other authors. There was no postoperative mortality. Vesicourethral stenosis (14, 2%) was the most frequent complication, which was higher than the published results. Although not yet accepted as a routine operation, retropubic prostectomy, when correctly performed, yields good results in localized prostate cancer, with practically no mortality and with an acceptable percentage of complications.
