Connective tissue graft versus acellular dermalmatrix – 1 year follow-up, a case report

Aim: Surgical techniques based on a coronally advanced flap withtissue/material interposed between the flap and the root surfaceare used to treat single and multiple gingival recession defects. The most common surgical technique (“gold standard”) is coro-nally advanced flap and a connective tissue graft harvested frompalate (CAF + CTG). In order to eliminate the second surgicalsite (palate), several materials have been proposed and introduced, such as acellular dermal matrix (CAF + ADM).Material and Methods: Case report: Recession defects onlower premolars of a healty patient (27 years old) were treatedby the same operator using different surgical techniques:CAF + CTG on the right, and CAF + ADM (Mucodermâ ; Botis DentalGmbH, Berlin, Germany) on the left side of themandible. Clinical results were evaluated 6 months and one yearafter the surgical procedures. Results: Both surgical procedures provided satisfactory clinicalresult in terms of complete root coverage in one year follow-upperiod. In the distal cervical area of the tooth 45 recessiondefect remained due to the absence of the adjacent tooth andthe distal papilla. Conclusion: Both surgical procedures may be recommended forthe treatment of gingival recession defects since they both providegood clinical and aesthetic results in one year follow-up period.
