Sažetak
The paper explores life and work of Slovak and Croatian writer and politician Janko (Ivan Krstitelj) Tombor (1825-1911), one of the most eminent native Slovaks settled in Croatia. The research was based on literary sources and contemporary periodicals, and the analysis is especially focused on significant number of newspaper articles published on the occasion of Tombor’s death. These necrologies are valuable and interesting primarily because they reveal a lot of previously unknown or ignored details of Tombor’s life and therefore represent an important contribution to the biography of this extinguished Slovak and Croat, as well as to the contemporary perception of his work.
