The relation between the sound pressure and tool vibrations during the turning process
The aim of our research was a comparison of two different signals (sound pressure near the cutting zone and tool vibrations) during the turning process. It was assumed and confirmed that each group of signals has its advantages and limitations. The measurements were performed on a heat treatable steel Č1431, whereas CBN inserts were used during dry cutting. Noise and acceleration data were recorded and analysed in frequency range between 1 to 20 kHz. An influence of cutting speed and insert radius on both groups of signals was observed. The results showed that a high possibility in terms of process monitoring exists for both groups of signals, especially for a large-scale production.
