Simple Shearing and Ploughing Cutting Force Model in Turning Operation with Nose Radius Tool
Herein, a simple semi-empirical approach to the modelling of cutting force, which is based on the shearing and ploughing theory, is proposed and experimentally validated for a turning operation. The cutting force components acting on the nose radius tool were estimated by dividing the uncut chip area into small segments. The local forces acting on each segment have been calculated and the total cutting force components were then determined by summation of the respective local forces. Estimated cutting force components have been compared to measured ones and their good agreement was observed.
