Identification of cutting conditions in turning by noise recording
The aim of the present research was to identify and predict the influence of the cutting conditions on noise during the turning process. Therefore, the sound pressure at 0, 5 m from the cutting zone during the turning was measured by the condenser microphone and analysed in frequency domain from 0 to 20 kHz. The possibilities for on-line sensing of the tool wear are presented. The results shows influence of cutting speed, feed rate, nose radius and tool wear on noise during turning. It was concluded that under the given circumenstances the identification of the turning process by the sound is possible, and relatively simple method for large scale application.
