Defining the tourist destination management model in order to achive sustainable destination development

In order to achieve sustainable tourism development it is necessary that stakeholders at all levels, from local to national, act in accordance with the principles of sustainable development. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to create a framework for the development of quality tourism offer and the competitiveness of Šibenik as a tourist destination. If a tourist destination is managed under the principles of sustainable development, it fulfills a prerequisite for the short and long term balance and creates greater value for all stakeholders in tourism. Over the past decade a significant amount of research has been devoted to sustainable tourism management and development. Tourism researchers from all over the world have provided many useful insights that have helped to advance the concept of sustainability for the industry. We now know that sustainability must be conceived as a transition and learning process (Farell & Twining-Ward, 2005), and as a "moving" rather than a static goal.
