Introduction, Summary
Shadowing the City – Hypertextualisation of urban spaces has focused on the texture and the exploration of the city, and the notions of immaterial cultural heritage, cultural memory, and urban history, where the authors have elaborated different approaches to the subject of the city, including urban memory and the ways the cultural identities of the city are used in art, architecture and urbanism. Starting from the notion of collectivity and coexistence that needs to be redefined, a new concept of the city was proposed in a very metaphorical sense of collective cultural dynamics. The artist and researchers presented worldwide examples of artistic practices engaged around cultural memory in an urban context that have showed how local and national memory artistic practices contest the myths of cyber capitalism and globalization, and their denial of time, space and place. Different artistic forms have used art as a tool for critical reflection that had perceived the city, its streets and sites, as an organic place for artistic creation, while simultaneously trying to sharpen the critical awareness of their own collective, and to increase the social capital on a micro urban level.
