Authentic materials in teaching pronunciation to young learners
This thesis is about authentic materials and their use in teaching pronunciation of English. The aim of this work is to present a different approach to teaching pronunciation to young learners. By using authentic texts, such as songs, nursery rhymes, etc., pronunciation features are explained and defined to learners using an interesting and motivating approach. After having completed the activities, this thesis attempted to investigate learners’ attitudes and reactions towards the use of authentic materials in English class. The examinees were second and third grade learners at Dr Ivan Merz Primary School. In both classes authentic material was presented (nursery rhymes and a song) and accompanied with a few follow-up activities. After the activities learners were given a short survey which provided information about their attitude and opinion about authentic materials, their interest and motivation for learning pronunciation through authentic materials.
